Hostel Review: New Saigon Hostel
I have been to this hostel twice when i stayed in Saigon, Vietnam. It was pretty new when i stayed there and on my second visit i decided that it was well worth a hostel review. This post is also dedicated to my friend Hung Phan whom works there and have been keeping in touch very well after my first visit.
New Saigon Hostel is located at the end of Bui Vien street in Pham Ngu Lao ward, a backpackers mecca for those whom come to Saigon. It was really easy to find as i had to just walk all the way in. You will pass by marts, bars, a Starbuck, pubs, restaurants, coffee-shops with stools placed facing out to the road. Its also walking distance (backpacker's type of walking distance :p) towards the 23rd September Park and Ben Thanh Market, about 10 minutes. Other attractions sites is within walking distance from Ben Thanh itself.
I stayed in the 6 bed mix dorm on my first visit and the 6 bed female dorm on my second visit. Both dorms are the same cleanliness and probably one of the best hostel i have stayed in my life.
They have a kitchen at the basement, the lobby on the Ground (G) floor where the reception is with a plasma TV on the wall (watched some great movies and cartoon here.) and on the first floor there is a computer area and books to read. Its funny though, the first floor is one floor up the lobby, i am just really bothered with its floor labels inside the lift.
When you reach the hostel, they will offer you a free welcome drink (i refilled twice because i'm cool like that.) which kinda taste like Yuzu drink. Its so yummy! I love it. Also, you get a free breakfast that starts at 6.30am/7am? but i had mine at 6am as i had to leave for Phnom Penh and needed their breakfast. I was served a baguette and bread with cheese and butter, oh my God, it taste so good!
They have package tours and bus tickets too so it ease other travelers a lot.
Wifi is free as well and i had no problem with it. The bathroom was super clean and it felt like i am in a 5 star hotel bathroom. Hot showers are available here. Even though the hostel is facing the road, i don't find it noisy at all and had a good night's sleep.
For 8 USD per night with breakfast, it was worth it because it came along with great friendship bond in this hostel!
You can visit their website here and book through there. Enjoy Saigon and if you stayed here before let them know what you think on TripAdvisor!
